Custom Skills
Skills are reusable instruction sets you create for Demi. Think of them as saved routines or playbooks that encode your best practices so Demi can follow them every time.
What Are Skills?
Everyone has tasks they do the same way every time — the weekly report that always follows a specific format, the follow-up email that hits the same talking points after every sales call, or the client onboarding checklist you have perfected over years. Skills let you teach these routines to Demi once, and it follows them consistently from that point forward.
A skill is simply a name, a description, and a set of detailed instructions. You write the playbook, and Demi executes it. No coding, no templates, no configuration files — just plain language instructions that Demi understands and follows.
Creating a Skill
- 1
Give it a name
Choose a clear, descriptive name like "Sales Follow-Up," "Weekly Report," or "Client Onboarding." This is how you and Demi will refer to the skill.
- 2
Write a description
Add a short description of what the skill does and when it should be used. This helps Demi recognize when the skill is relevant to your current request.
- 3
Add your instructions
Write the step-by-step instructions Demi should follow. Be as detailed as you like — include the format you want, the tone to use, specific data to include, and any rules or exceptions. The more specific your instructions, the more consistent the results.
Example Skills
Sales Follow-Up
After every meeting, draft a follow-up email that references key discussion points, restates any commitments made, and proposes next steps. Use a professional but warm tone. Always include a specific call to action.
Weekly Report
Every Monday morning, pull my completed tasks from Asana, summarize key accomplishments, flag any blockers, and format everything into a structured email with sections for Completed, In Progress, and Blocked. Send to my manager.
Client Onboarding
When onboarding a new client, create a welcome email introducing the team, set up a kickoff meeting for the first available slot, create an Asana project with the standard onboarding task template, and send a checklist of required documents.
How Skills Activate
Skills activate when Demi recognizes a matching context in your request. If you have a "Sales Follow-Up" skill and you say "send a follow-up from my meeting with Acme Corp," Demi will use your skill instructions to craft the email exactly the way you specified. You do not need to mention the skill by name — Demi matches based on context and intent.
You can also reference a skill directly if you prefer. Just mention it by name and Demi will apply those instructions to your current task.
Managing Your Skills
All your skills live in Settings → Skills on the iPhone app. From there you can:
- View — Browse all your created skills and review their instructions.
- Edit — Update instructions as your workflows evolve. Changes take effect immediately on future tasks.
- Delete — Remove skills you no longer need. Demi will stop using those instructions going forward.
Start Small
Start with one skill for your most repetitive task — the one you do the same way every single time. Get it working the way you want, then expand from there. Most people find that three to five well-crafted skills cover the majority of their routine work, freeing up significant time every week.
