Approvals & Permissions
Demi is powerful, but you are always in charge. Every sensitive action requires your explicit approval, and you have granular control over what Demi can and cannot do.

You Stay in Control
Demi is designed with a simple philosophy: read freely, write carefully. When Demi needs to check your calendar, search the web, or read your project tasks, it goes ahead without interrupting you. But the moment Demi wants to take an action that affects the outside world -- sending an email, creating a meeting, posting to social media -- it stops and asks for your permission first.
This means you never have to worry about Demi doing something you did not intend. You see exactly what is about to happen before it happens.
What Requires Approval
Demi categorizes actions into read-only and write actions. Only write actions require your approval:
Needs Approval
Sending emails, creating calendar events, deleting files, posting to social media, creating tasks in project tools, modifying documents
No Approval Needed
Checking your calendar, reading email, searching the web, viewing project tasks, fetching data from connected services
The Approval Flow
When Demi reaches a step that requires approval, here is what happens:
- 1
Demi pauses execution
The task stops at the sensitive step. No action is taken until you respond.
- 2
You see a preview
Demi shows you exactly what it is about to do -- the full email draft, the calendar event details, or whatever the action involves. You get the complete picture before making a decision.
- 3
You approve, edit, or cancel
Tap Approve to let Demi proceed, or cancel to stop the action. On the iPhone app, you can also edit the content before approving -- perfect for tweaking an email subject line or adjusting meeting details.
- 4
Demi continues or stops
If you approve, Demi executes the action and moves on to the next step. If you cancel, Demi skips that step and finishes the remaining work where possible.
Note
Approval requests are sent to both your Apple Watch and iPhone. Approve from whichever device is most convenient -- a quick tap on your wrist or a detailed review on your phone.
Permissions and Scopes
Demi uses a granular permission system called scopes. Each scope controls a specific capability -- reading your calendar, sending emails, managing tasks, and so on. You grant scopes when you connect an integration, and you can adjust them at any time from the settings page.
If Demi tries to use a tool it does not have permission for, the step is skipped and you are notified. This ensures Demi never exceeds the boundaries you have set.
Auto-Approve
Once you are comfortable with how Demi handles certain actions, you can enable auto-approve for specific scopes. When auto-approve is on, Demi skips the manual approval step for those actions and executes them immediately. This is especially useful for recurring tasks where you trust the output -- like a daily briefing email that you have reviewed and approved many times before.
You can also set working hours for autonomous execution. During these hours, Demi can execute auto-approved tasks without waiting. Outside working hours, all actions require manual approval regardless of your auto-approve settings.
Audit Trail
Every action Demi takes is logged with a timestamp, the specific tool used, and the full details of what happened. This audit trail is always available in your task history, so you can review exactly what Demi did and when. Nothing happens in the dark -- complete transparency is built into every layer of the system.
Tip
Start with manual approval for everything. As you get comfortable with Demi and see how it handles different actions, gradually enable auto-approve for the ones you trust. This is the safest way to build up to a fully autonomous workflow.
